The most common objection to solar sounds the same everywhere: «what about winter?» Short answer: the system works all year round — just differently.
Panels need light, not heat
Photovoltaics respond to light, and cold actually helps: silicon has a negative temperature coefficient, so a frosty sunny day is excellent for output. Winter’s real issue is the short day and low sun.
What winter delivers in the south
- December–January: roughly 30–40% of a June day;
- overcast day: 10–25% of a clear one — diffuse light still converts;
- annual split: about 70% of yield in the summer half-year, 30% in the winter half.

And snow?
In the Krasnodar region snow cover is rare and short-lived. On panels tilted 30–35° it slides off within hours — the dark glass warms even in frost.
Designing with winter in mind
- Grid-tied: the winter dip is simply topped up from the grid;
- hybrid: the battery (10.24 kWh in the P100) smooths cloudy days;
- off-grid: the only case sized for December rather than the annual average — plus a backup generator.
TOPCon N-type modules hold an edge precisely here: better low-light response and temperature behaviour than mass-market PERC.
