How to choose a solar inverter: a practical guide

Kosmo Solar · updated Июль 2026

Panels decide how much energy you collect. The inverter decides how much of it reaches the socket — and what happens to the house when the grid fails.

1. Grid-tied or hybrid?

Grid-tied is cheaper but dies with the grid. A hybrid works with a battery and keeps the house alive — for homes in outage-prone areas the price difference pays for itself with the first long blackout. See the system-type comparison.

2. How much power?

  • By household load: a 100–200 m² home usually needs 5–10 kW;
  • by surge currents: pumps and compressors briefly draw 3–5× nominal — check overload capacity (the P100 holds 200% for 10 seconds);
  • by the array: the PV input should exceed your panel array by 20–30% for future growth.

3. One phase or three?

Match your grid connection: with a three-phase supply, a single-phase inverter can feed only a third of the house.

4. How many MPPT trackers?

Each roof face with its own orientation or shading needs its own tracker, or the weak string drags down the strong one. The P100 line carries 2–3 trackers depending on the model.

5. Protections and service

  • efficiency from 97% — every lost percent works against you for 25 years;
  • AFCI, insulation and residual-current monitoring;
  • IP65–IP66 for outdoor mounting;
  • app monitoring and an official local warranty.

The classic mistake is saving on the inverter after paying for good panels. It is the only component working under load 24/7 — the most expensive place to economise.
